Marjorie and Richard Gilmore are the owners of Wellgreen Farm located in McLean County at Downs, Illinois. We named the farm (Wellgreen Farm) after Marjorie's great grandfather, who in the early 1900's, named his farm (located in Sparland, Illinois) Wellgreen Stock Farm, which is a location in Scotland from which he originated. Wellgreen Farm in Downs, IL was purchased/founded in 1992, by Marjorie and her husband Richard, to establish a high standard in the equestrian industry. Marjorie's horse related experience is numerous and extensive with over 35 years working with and around horses. The last 19 years or moving to Downs in 1992, we have been in the horse business (boarding, lessons, leasing, training, camps, parties, scout badges, sales and more......). Marjorie is a certified instructor with North American Riding for the Handicapped Association (NARHA), a merit badge counselor (horsemanship badge) with the Centrillio Council and is First Aid and CPR trained. The programs at Wellgreen Farm are extensive and extremely safe. We have recently added horse training, and overnight horse motel services (including an on-site beautifully decorated apartment) to our list of services that we offer. Thank you for visiting out site and let us know how we can help you achieve your horse related goals. We would love to hear from you! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In Memory of My Dad........Marjorie owes her start in the horse and cattle business to her Dad who saddly passed away on January 12, 2008. He is pictured below with some of his registered polled hereford cattle, he was so proud of, some of which were shown successfully by our two sons, Ryan and Adam James. He will be dearly missed but his legacy lives on through all he gave to us. We have many wonderful memories to look back on including several trail rides we took together, which he dearly loved! We know he is in heaven, perhaps riding around on our beloved horse, Poco and his suffering has ended. For my family and me, it is a tremendous loss. Still we must be grateful to a loving God who gave him to us for so many years. As the song put it, "He was my hero......everything I would like to be..." Don't wait until tomorrow to tell your loved ones that you love them......it may never come. Do it today! We love you Dad and we miss you! You are my bright and shining star....

Leaving Your Mark In the World Written by Doug, The Professional Horseman
The manufacturer of that handle put his heart and soul into all of the iron he produced as a blacksmith and a farrier. My door handle is proudly stamped with "Vern H." to let the world know he made it. He's passed on and I often think about him and his work with horses and their owners when I see the stamp. Your pride in your work will leave a legacy that will endure far longer than any of your material goods you value so highly today. Think about it, when you leave this world, your money will be distributed to your heirs who will use it and mix it back into the economic river where you found it. It's likely your clothes will be donated to strangers and after personal keepsakes are distributed, the remainder of your effects will end up in a garage sale or landfill. What's left for your legacy are your own little stamps you make along your way in life. You know, like the time you gave a kid a job who desperately needed the money and some solid advice in a troubled time. And when the riding camp student from twenty five years ago brings her daughter to camp and says please give her the confidence you gave me when I needed it so much. Your words and actions are the stamps that truly make your legacy. Leave your mark with pride.
