Our History......

Marjorie and Richard Gilmore are the owners of Wellgreen Farm located in McLean County at Downs, Illinois. The farm's name came from Marjorie's great grandfather, who in the early 1900's, named his farm Wellgreen Stock Farm, after the area in Scotland, where he originated from. Wellgreen Farm was founded in 1992, by Marjorie and her husband Richard, to establish a high standard in the Equestrian industry with an emphasis on safety and quality.  Marjorie's horse related experience is numerous and extensive with over 30 plus years working with and around horses.  The last 15 years or since 1992, we have been in the horse business (boarding, lessons, leasing, trail riding, camps, parties and sales).  Marjorie is a certified instructor and is First Aid and CPR trained and current. The programs at Wellgreen Farm are extensive and extremely safe.  We have recently added horse training, and overnight horse motel services (including an on-site beautifully decorated apartment) to our list of services that we offer.  Thank you for visiting out site and let us know how we can help you achieve your horse related goals.  We would love to hear from you!

Marjorie owes her start in the horse and cattle business to her Dad who sadly passed away on January 12, 2008.  He is pictured here with some of his registered polled hereford cattle, some of which were shown by our two sons.  He will be dearly missed but his legacy lives on through all he gave to us.  We have many wonderful memories to look back on including a few trail rides we took together, which he dearly loved!  We know he is in heaven, now, perhaps riding around on our beloved horse, Poco and his suffering has ended.  For my family and me, it is a tremendous loss but as the song says, "He was my hero......everything I would like to be..."  Don't wait until tomorrow to tell your loved ones you love them......it may never come.  Do it today!  We love you Dad and we miss you!  Marjorie

James S. Riddell (1920 ~ 2008)

Marjorie and Richard decided to expand the equestrian program and formed "Adventures on Horseback". A program which offers professional adult and children riding lessons, challenging trail rides, parties for both businesses and children or adults, children's camps and horsemanship classes, horse leasing, boarding as well as offering ccouting programs to earn merit badges. At Wellgreen Farm, pride is taken in providing top quality horses, that receive the highest standard of care. Marjorie hand selects her riding horses for temperment, conformation and training.  The programs that are offered at Wellgreen Farm are second to none. All of us at Wellgreen Farm are happy to visit with you about all of their programs (lessons, camps, clinics, training, leasing, trails, showing, and group events).

Marjorie's two sons have won many awards with the calves bred at Wellgreen Farm and Riddell Polled Hereford Farm. Quality Hereford Calves  are available, for purchase, each year for the prospective show person.

It was a natural step, from this breeding program, to offer this excellent beef to the public through Richard & Marjorie's "Freezer Beef " program, which boasts corn feed, all natural, Polled Hereford beef that meets the highest standards of quality with no harmful hormones.  Contact Marjorie for more information....

Wellgreen Farm's Philosophy:  Great service comes from the heart. It has to come from the inside out. You cannot mandate it. You can’t threaten, reward, or coerce people to care. You can only awaken the desire and then give them the permission and encouragement to make it come alive in their work.

At Wellgreen Farm, we care from the heart about helping you reach your equestrian goals.  We will help you develop a plan to take you where you want to go in an effort to help you reach those goals.  At Wellgreen Farm, we strive to make a difference!  Simply said, if people don’t have in their hearts the desire to serve and make a difference in others, they will not give great service.  At the core of great customer service lies the heart of each of us.

When I work with people, I often ask them, “What is your work?” What they almost always tell me is a job description or a job title, yet we are all so much more than that. We can bring our hearts to work with us! When you think about the question “What is your work?” think about this:  How is what you do every day making someone’s life better?  After all, isn't that what we are all here for, to make a difference in the lives of others?  That is very important work!

At Wellgreen Farm we focus on what we can do in our daily work to make our customers feel special and their lives a little better.  No matter what our job may be, we each possess a unique understanding of this world and have our own ideas and gifts to share. Our truest gift can be found in our hearts and the hearts of our horses, if we look deeply enough and listen closely. When the heart is in the right place, the ego gets out of the way. That’s when great service comes shining through!  Marjorie

Testimonials:  "For what it's worth. I believe you have a great deal off character, courage, strength, & love in your heart. You are an admirable person."  Nan Hamilton  11/2007

Dear Marj,   In church the other day the minister was talking about people who have made a difference in our lives and how God uses situations and people to touch our lives and I thought of you and just wanted to let you know and thank you for letting God use you and Wellgreen farm to touch my heart and my life...my time their at Wellchild and with you there, will always have a special place in my heart!!  I have been blessed that is for sure!  :)   Love and hugs, Kaleigh  1/08

"When Your Horse Out Lives You"

http://family-pets-health.blogspot.com/2008/03/when-your-horse-outlives-you.html

You can also bequeath money to be used specifically for the care of your horses to the designated person.  (Don't leave money to the animals because they are legally property and can't receive money.)

Since horses are more costly to maintain, you may also wish to get the approval of the person you wish to be named as the new owner.

There was a strange story about a horse owner who became unable to make decisions for his horses and was hospitalized. His companion grew tired of caring for the animals and gave them all away. When the owner recuperated and returned home, he discovered all of his horses were gone.

What provisions do you have to ensure that good decisions will be made on the part of your horses

should you become incapable of making those decisions?

You can ensure via a Living Will that your wishes are undertaken for your horse's welfare even if you are incapacitated.

There are several online sources that have forms you can create for a Will, Living Will or Power of Attorney.

It may seem a morbid thought now to consider, but once you've put to ink your decisions regarding the care of your horses, you can feel better knowing that should you proceed before them across the rainbow bridge, they'll be in good hands.

Several people have set up endowments, and have money set aside, for their horses

to be able to come and live at Wellgreen Farm (after checking with us) should something happen to them.

It is important to make provisions for your horses...let us help.

Don't let the Wellgreen Farm Sun, set on your dreams............

get in touch with us today to make them a reality!

Remember:

Mahatma Gandhi:

"The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated."
