Lil's Wranglers' Riding Session is a 10-week course that gives your child a chance to start learning about, and gaining experience with horses at a very young age.  These riding lessons will consist of basic western riding from walking to trotting in accordance with the child's ability and confidence level.  We will start out with the horse already groomed and tacked up, upon arrival to the barn, and one of our ASTM/SEI approved helmets is required and will be provided for your child.  However, should you wish to get one of you own, we would be happy to share requine supply catalogs or the names of retailers where you can purchase a riding helmet and/or adequate foot wear.  All riders are required to wear shoes or boots and long pants.  No sandals or other open toed shoes are permitted.

Prior to the first lesson, rider’s parents or legal guardian must sign a Waiver of Liability and disclose any medical or physical conditions that might be relevant to their performance. These lessons are 30 minute private lessons, with a one on one riding instructor in an enclosed indoor arena setting.  We also offer one hour riding sessions that will include grooming and tacking up the horse as well (for an additional fee) for children that can handle and do more.  Riders can start as young as 2 years of age on up.

However, for safety reasons, the decision whether or not a child is ready is at the discretion of the instructor.

We then will work on leading the horse around, in the indoor arena, with a lead rope attached, working up to the point where they can learn how to use the reins to steer, again depending on their age and ability level. Parents may assist by walking along side the child and horse if they would like to do so, however it is not required.  For the series of 10 riding lessons, instructional coloring books will be provided, starting at their very first lesson.  It is important to recognize that this is in an educational format where we are actually teaching your child how to ride and is more than just riding in a circle.  At the end of the course, a certificate with the picture of the child and the horse will be presented.

As always, we, at Wellgreen Farm, make safety our first priority with an element of fun and learning!  Don’t miss out on a memorable experience for you and your child that will be remembered in the years to come.

We are happy to answer any and all questions at any time.
